Giants coach confirms what fans feared for Week 2 matchup against Commanders

The New York Giants had an awful Week 1 outing. A short-handed Minnesota Vikings team dominated them at every turn. The secondary struggled against Sam Darnold. The Giants offense was anemic - at best.

All in all, there was not a lot of good to takeaway from New York's season opening loss. Now, they are looking to bounce back, but it will not be with a change at quarterback yet.

Daniel Jones remains Giants starting QB

Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that Daniel Jones will start in Week 2 for New York. They are not benching him.

This statement from Daboll supports his sentiment from his postgame presser after Sunday's loss. He said that the team did not consider benching him during the season opener.

Jones struggled mightily in Week 1 behind some surprisingly solid offensive line play. Their OL unit was ranked in the middle of the pack in the NFL. Of five sacks given up, only one was attributed to the OL, according to PFF.

Additionally, Jones' average time to throw was 2.82 seconds. That ranked 15th in the NFL in Week 1. He got enough time to perform better than he did.

The Giants wide receiver group generated separation, too. Jones simply could not find them consistently, though. Even with tons of zone coverage from the Vikings, Jones never found his footing.

We will see if Jones can hold onto the starting QB  job in the long-term. Drew Lock remains the team's top backup option.
