Ryan Day gives early rave review of underrated transfer’s impact with Ohio State

When talking about the transfers that the Ohio State Buckeyes added in the off-season, we often hear about Caleb Downs, Quinshon Judkins , and Will Howard. However, there is one transfer that is making a big impact as well that probably is not being talked about enough.

Center Seth McLaughlin struggled near the end of his Alabama career and ended up entering the transfer portal. He ended up in Columbus and locked down the center spot.

Now, head coach Ryan Day sounds a lot like a coach who is happy that McLaughlin ended up in Columbus.

"He's been a pro. Calms everything down inside. He just has a calming presence. That's a good feeling as a coach,” Day explained during his Tuesday media availability. “I do think having that tablet on the sideline is very helpful. I think it's really helpful in terms of our coaching. He gives us great information and he can help us with that, in terms of seeing something in the game."

Through two games against lesser opponents, McLaughlin is basically like another coach on the field it sounds like. Ohio State needed another veteran piece to add to the offensive line and they look to have it. While it is only Akron and Western Michigan that Ohio State has played to this point, what has been put out there looks promising.

McLaughlin is only going to be in Columbus for a year likely, but if he can be a stable and consistent piece along the offensive line on the way to a National Championship, Buckeye fans will be thrilled that he ever even showed up in Columbus.

Ohio State lucked out with Nick Saban retiring and it helped them land three players from that team. Downs, McLaughlin, and Julian Sayin are all either very important right now or will be later on down the line.

It appears that the snapping issues are in the past and McLaughlin is now playing some of the best ball in his career. That is good news for the Ohio State offense.
