Packers WR Jayden Reed has just done something nobody had in the Super Bowl era

It was clear after the game in Brazil that second-year wide receiver Jayden Reed is ready to be the primary weapon on the Green Bay Packers offense. Despite the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Reed shined with a rushing and a receiving touchdown, confirming what he had already shown as a rookie.

The former second-rounder has a special ability to make everything, and his versatility is a huge calling card for what he can do as a player. One stat in particular shows exactly how impressive Jayden Reed has been.

According to the Packers dope sheet, Reed has nine receiving touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns since getting into the NFL. He is the first player to reach these numbers in his first 17 career games since 1961. That means Reed is the first to do so in the Super Bowl era.

Just two other players have done it in NFL history. Gibby Welch, who played for the New York Yankees and Providence Steam Roller (!!) between 1928 and 1929, and Elbert Dubenion, who achieved that playing for the Buffalo Bills between 1960 and 1961.

The NFL has obviously seen amazing gadget weapons over the last six decades, with the ability to catch and run. But Jayden Reed's touchdown efficiency doing both is truly unique.

And after the loss in Brazil, Reed thinks he can be even better.

"You just got to keep working on finding ways to get better. We did a lot of things that we know we can get better at," the receiver said. "We just got to attack going forward and work on those things so we can get better as a whole."

    Huge performance

After one week, Jayden Reed leads the NFL with 138 receiving yards. He's also second in scrimmage yards (171), seven yards behind Houston Texans' running back Joe Mixon.

Reed was targeted six times and finished the game with four receptions for 138 yards, plus the rush attempt for a 33-yard touchdown. Jordan Love had a 149.3 passer rating when targeting him.

Jayden Reed was one of two Green Bay Packers players to make PFF’s team of week 1, alongside right tackle Zach Tom.

The Packers are deep at wide receiver, and they might not need a WR1 to be successful. But based on what Jayden Reed has done, he is absolutely capable of being that central piece of an offense, and Matt LaFleur will have the opportunity to take advantage of that skill set.
