San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, a former Tennessee Vols standout, is considered "day to day" after suffering an ankle injury on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets.

Jennings was injured on a play that appeared to be a hip-drop tackle, which was banned by the NFL earlier this year.

No flag was thrown on the play. Jennings returned to the game after a brief departure.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported on Tuesday that the league viewed the play as a violation of the new hip-drop tackle rule.

" Per a source with knowledge of the league’s assessment of the play, it was a violation ," wrote Florio.

It appears that Jennings avoided a major injury, and it seems likely that he'll play in the 49ers' Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The ankle injury, however, could linger and cause some issues for the former Vol until it fully heals.
