The Philadelphia Eagles entered Week 1 with a question mark as to who would get the start at right inside linebacker.

Since Devin White did not travel with the team to Brazil due to an ankle injury, third-year linebacker Nakobe Dean was the automatic starter in the team's 34-29 win over the Green Bay Packers.

After an up-and-down start from Dean, many questioned what that position would look like moving forward and if White would take over once healthy again.

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio made things very clear on Wednesday.

“No,” Fangio said, “Nakobe is the starter.”

Dean was projected to have a breakout season last fall, but injuries kept him from doing that as he landed on injured reserve twice. Through five games, the former 2022 third-round pick out of Georgia logged 30 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a half sack for the Eagles in 2023.

Against the Packers last Friday, Dean was credited with four tackles (three solo) and one pass breakup. He almost had a pick-six and made up for that miss with a big hit stick to break up a pass.

So, what does this mean for White, who signed with the Eagles in NFL free agency with the intention of being the starter?

"We talked to him (White) about it, he is still a good player, he is part of it and will be part of it," Fangio said. Dean won the job."
