Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt provides Chiefs' rookie sensation with his first NFL bulletin board material

Kansas City Chiefs rookie WR Xavier Worthy has been in the NFL all of one regular season game and he's already drawing bulletin board material from opponents.

Worthy had a tremendous Week 1 debut against the Baltimore Ravens, recording two touchdowns and 68 total yards on just three touches. It was the type of performance that had Buffalo Bills fans reeling over their team's decision to make the 2024 NFL draft trade that allowed the Chiefs to scoop Worthy in the first place.

It didn't take long for Worthy to get welcomed to the rivalry with the Cincinnati Bengals. Asked what Worthy brings to the Kansas City offense, Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt gave a reductive answer, which could hurt his team in the long run.

“Speed. That's about it," Taylor-Britt told reporters of Worthy. "He can run straight. Run jet sweeps and just run straight. He can't do too much else. That's about it. I feel like if you put your hands on him, he's only 100-something pounds. If you put your hands on him, you'll stop the speed. So, basically, get hands on him."

Everyone knows that Worthy broke the NFL Scouting Combine 40-yard dash record. To reduce his ability and role to "jet sweeps" and "run straight" is just asking for it. Worthy's Week 1 was a good start, but it didn't even show half of what he's capable of in Andy Reid's offense.

Taylor-Britt has plenty of reason to be confident in his abilities after Week 1. He allowed just one reception for three yards on a single target to the New England Patriots' receiving corps. That said, this wasn't confidence. It was arrogance.

Worthy has already shown Taylor-Britt how it's done off the gridiron

Worthy will get a chance to prove Taylor-Britt wrong on Sunday, but he's already shown him how it's done off the field. The rookie was asked about Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase during his media availability on Wednesday.

Man, (Bengals WR) Ja’Marr Chase is an excellent receiver," Worthy said. "Just watching him at LSU with (Vikings WR) Justin Jefferson, they obviously made a lot of plays. Him coming in his rookie year he made a lot of plays, so it’s big ups to Ja’Marr.”

Amazingly, a 21-year-old rookie is already wise beyond his years. Showing respect for your opponents sets you up for success in your preparation. Boiling your opponent down to one-dimensional, on the other hand, is just asking for your words to come back to bite you. You never want to give the opponent any unearned motivation and Taylor-Britt did just that.
