Tua Tagovailoa has suffered another concussion. The Miami Dolphins quarterback left the game against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football after a collision with safety Damar Hamlin in the third quarter.

Tagovailoa was sent to the locker room and quickly ruled out with a concussion.

It's Tagovailoa's third diagnosed concussion in the NFL, after he suffered two during the 2022 season.

Backup Skylar Thompson finished the game for the Dolphins.

    How it happened

In the second half of Thursday Night's Football game between the Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills, Miami star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remained down on the ground after taking a scary hit to the head.

Training staff immediately rushed out to help him, and social media went crazy with well wishes for the quarterback.

The Dolphins immediately ruled out Tagovailoa with a concussion.

The quarterback led with his shoulder and head when trying to gain some extra yards and crashed right into Bills safety Damar Hamlin. It was immediately apparent that it was a head injury.

    Background

Concussions are always a very scary injury for any football player to sustain, but for Tagovailoa it's even more so because of his history.

During the 2022 season, Tagovailoa hit his head hard on the ground in a Week 3 matchup against the Bills. He was stumbling when he got up and briefly went to the sidelines.

But he was cleared by a neurologist, which led to a NFL Players Association Inquiry regarding the handling of Tagovailoa's head injury. The neurologist was later fired.

In the Dolphins next game, which was just four days after Tagovailoa sustained the initial head injury, he was back out on the field for a Thursday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tua Tagovailoa signed a four-year extension with the Dolphins right before training camp. The deal averages $53 million per season. Last year, Tua led the NFL in passing yards and made it to the Pro Bowl for the first time.
