Don't look now but the Tennessee Vols appear to have yet another young superstar on their roster.

We already know all about quarterback Nico Iamaleava, edge rusher James Pearce, running back Dylan Sampson, and the Vols' veteran wide receiver group.

On Saturday night against Kent State, true freshman wide receiver Mike Matthews, a former five-star recruit, announced his arrival as a legitimate weapon for the Vols.

Matthews, a Georgia native who signed with Tennessee over the Bulldogs , made one of the most impressive plays of the Vols' 71-0 win.

The true freshman showed elite body control with his contested touchdown catch in the second half against Kent State.

I know it was just one play, and I know the Vols were playing Kent State, but that's that kind of catch that future NFL players make. Matthews showed an impressive ability to adjust his body in the air, despite knowing that he was going to get hit by a Kent State defender. Matthews' natural ability combined with his fearless competitiveness made that play happen.

"I think we've always seen his big play ability in practice, it was good to see it carry over to a game," said Iamaleava after the game when asked about Matthews. "He's always making tough catches, so it was good seeing him shine tonight."

Matthews finished the game with two receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown. He also had a kick return for 32 yards. Those aren't massive numbers, but he showed enough with his touchdown reception that Vols fans should be extremely excited about the young wide receiver's potential.
