It has been fewer than three full days, but Tua Tagovailoa has already made a long-term decision about his career. According to NFL Network's insider Ian Rapoport, the Miami Dolphins quarterback doesn't intend to retire and will make everything possible to be on the field again as soon as possible.

Tagovailoa left the Dolphins game against the Buffalo Bills in the third quarter on Thursday Night Football and was quickly ruled out because of a concussion. It's the third time in Tua's NFL career that he's been diagnosed with this type of head injury.

It's unclear at this point when Tagovailoa will be available. So far, the Dolphins have not placed the quarterback on the injured reserve — if/when they do that, Tua will have to miss at least four games.

Head coach Mike McDaniel said earlier this week that Tagovailoa's health is the main priority at this moment.

"It would be so wrong of me to even sniff that subject and it's more in line of actually caring about the human being and that's something that entirely you're talking about his career, right? His career is his," McDaniel said.

"That's something that I really, really, really wish — I totally understand it and it's not misplaced. I totally get how that's where people want to go to. I just wish that people would for a second hear what I'm saying that bringing up his future is not in the best interest of him," McDaniel added. "So I'm going to plead with everybody that does genuinely care, that that should be the last thing on your mind because – what do you think if I were to answer that question, I'd be like, 'All right, this is my thoughts on his career' and he read it. If he agreed with it or he disagreed with it, either way I've just made him worse. So I'm not taking this opportunity. I don't think it's appropriate simply because of my care and regard, and I don't think those types of conversations when you're talking about somebody's career – it probably is only fair that their career should be decided by them."

    QB depth

For now, Skylar Thompson is the only other quarterback on the Miami Dolphins ' active 53-man roster. Beyond him, the Dolphins also have Tim Boyle on the practice squad. The team has the option to elevate him three times during the season for gameday without promoting Boyle to the main roster.
