Chiefs HC Andy Reid gives injury update on RB Isiah Pacheco after he exited late in the Week 2 win vs. Bengals

Update: According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington , Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco left the stadium in a walking boot and on crutches.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost their workhorse running back Isiah Pacheco in the final moments of the Week 2 win against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Late in the fourth quarter with the clock winding down, Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco took a carry for one yard. He was bent backward on the play and his right ankle was caught underneath. He limped off the field and was lying on the sideline in a lot of pain, with trainers tending to the injury.

Pacheco didn't return to the game with RB Samaje Perine and FB Carson Steele combining to fill in on the final seven offensive snaps as the clock wound down.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke about the injury shortly after the game.

"The only major injury would be (Isiah) Pacheco with his ankle. We'll just have to see. He's having some tests done on it now, x-rays, all that stuff. So I don't have anything for you exactly what it is, but he came out with the ankle."

Reid reiterated that he just doesn't know the severity of the injury yet as tests are underway. Pacheco is a tough kid, but he didn't sound particularly encouraged by the injury. At the same time, Pacheco did take interviews on the field after the game, which is an encouraging sign that the injury might not be as serious as it looked.

Pacheco touched the ball more than anyone not named Patrick Mahomes on Sunday afternoon. He had 19 rushing attempts for 90 yards and caught 5-of-5 targets for 21 yards receiving on the day. This all comes a day after Pacheco was hit with a steep fine for lowering his head to initiate contact against the Ravens in Week 1 .

Missing Pacheco for any period would be suboptimal for Kansas City. Samaje Perine is entering his third week with the team and still trying to learn the system. Carson Steele is a rookie and going through his own growing pains. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is out until Week 5 on the Physically Unable to Perform List. Ideally, a low ankle sprain would mean Pacheco isn't slated to miss time, but a high ankle sprain or worse could be a massive blow to Kansas City's offense.
