Davon Godchaux had a simple but perfect reaction to the end of the New England Patriots home opener against the Seattle Seahawks: "Frustrating."

It took overtime to determine the winner of this competitive and back-and-forth matchup. However, a controversial call overshadowed the other four quarters of play. (Yes we're talking about the defensive pass interference call on Jonathan Jones).

But Godchaux made sure to point out that this one call, despite the fact that much of the team didn't agree with it, was not the entire cause for the loss.

"We had our chances," he told A to Z Sports exclusively. "We should have won that game. We got to put teams away like that... Good job by (Seattle), but I thought we should have won that game."

The defensive tackle went on to mention that moments such as the blown coverage on DK Metcalf that allowed him to get a 56-yard touchdown or the defensive pass interference call on Marco Wilson in the second quarter that allowed the Seahawks to run it in for a 1-yard touchdown had just as big of an impact on the outcome. Oh and not to mention the blocked field goal.

"We just beat ourselves," Godchaux said. "Not saying that at the Seahawks there because they played a hell of a game too. But we got to close that game out. It shouldn't have even went to overtime. We got to close it out in the fourth quarter."

And while the loss is tough right now, it may sting even more later in the season when the Patriots look back on games that could have potentially put them in a playoff spot.

"Those are games you need towards the end of the year when you look at it like, we're one game away from 10 wins," Godchaux explained. "I've been going through that since I've been here."

But regardless, the team has a short week so now they have to turn their focus to Thursday night.

"We got a good team on Thursday. Not the same old Jets. These guys are pretty good. A-Rod, Aaron Rodgers' running the show," he said. "So they're going to be really fired up and ready to go. So we got to look at this one, forget about it, and get ready for Thursday."
