Brock Purdy joins select group of quarterbacks with his performance in 49ers' Week 2 loss to Vikings

Brock Purdy wasn't at his best in the San Francisco 49ers' Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings .

Yes, Purdy had a 319-yard game and threw his first touchdown of the season, but his decision-making was often poor, and he was frequently skittish in the pocket as Brian Flores' aggressive and complex defense caused him no end of problems.

Purdy turned the ball over twice, tossing a deflected interception that set up a Vikings touchdown on the next play, while also fumbling on a throw where the ball simply slipped out of his hands.

Despite all those issues that had a direct influence on the 49ers dropping to 1-1, it was still a game in which Purdy joined a very select group of quarterbacks.

Indeed, Purdy posted a passer rating of 101.3, marking his 15th passer rating of at least 100.0 in 23 regular-season starts. In achieving that feat, he became the sixth quarterback in NFL history to register a passer rating of 100.0 or higher in 15 of his first 25 career starts.

Only Hall of Famer Kurt Warner (16) and Patrick Mahomes (18) have posted more such games in their first 25 starts, Purdy tying with Carson Palmer, Dak Prescott and Tony Romo.

With two more starts until he gets to 25, Purdy will have a chance to surpass that trio and potentially even Warner in upcoming games against the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.

That potential achievement will be far from Purdy's mind, however, with his focus sure to be on finding a way to produce more consistent performances that can get the 49ers back on track.
