Dak Prescott teased a potential fix for big Cowboys problem right after losing to Saints

The Dallas Cowboys were steamrolled on defense on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints offense but here's the thing: The offense failed to capitalize on key opportunities as well, including in the red zone .

Additionally, the team was unable to generate a lot of big plays, with most of them coming with the game well out of reach in the second half. The most notable exception was a 65-yard catch and run from CeeDee Lamb as he ducked by two flying defensive backs on his way to the end zone in the second quarter to make it a one possession game.

Even still, the team needs more, and quarterback Dak Prescott understands it.

"That’s a good question, I don’t want to say you have to be perfect," Prescott told reporters when asked if he had to be perfect for the Cowboys to have big plays. "Everybody’s got to do their job and trust their job and understand that’s where the big plays come from."

Despite preaching the fundamentals of "doing your job," Prescott understands it might take a bit more from him to unleash the Cowboys offense, which is exactly what happened last year after the team fell to the San Francisco 49ers. Dak's proposed fix for the lack of big plays? Use his legs.

"Part of it for me, I think maybe, I felt like I was at this point last year, it was a lot later in the year when I did it, but going back to using my feet more, whether it’s scrambling, extending the plays to look to throw the ball down the field or maybe just going and getting a couple yards and getting down," Prescott added. "I wouldn’t say it’s about being perfect, but understanding that I do have that ability and that is a huge part of our offense. Got to bring it to life, I think."

I'll admit, I find it a tiny bit odd for the Cowboys quarterback and coaching staff to seemingly try to avoid Dak using his feet more early in the season as it turned out to provide the best version of the offense in 2024. But if Prescott is willing to make the adaptation earlier than they did last year, I'm happy with it.

When the Cowboys take on the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday, watch out for a more mobile version of the $60 million quarterback. It might be exactly what the team needs.
