The Kansas City Chiefs are seriously considering a reunion with a former draft pick who has a complicated past with the team.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero former Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt is traveling to Kansas City for a workout on Tuesday. This comes in the wake of starting RB Isiah Pacheco's fractured fibula . Andy Reid indicated that Chiefs GM Brett Veach would be taking a look around the league , but this comes as a bit of a surprise given the history.

A former third-round draft pick out of Toledo in 2017, Hunt played 1.5 seasons in Kansas City. He carried the ball 453 times for 2,151 yards and 15 touchdowns in 27 games started, leading the league in rushing yards as a rookie in 2017. That success was all derailed when a video surfaced of Hunt assaulting a woman . The team eventually decided to release Hunt in what was the prime of his career.

“We were obviously shocked by the video, I think like anybody who saw it,” Chiefs CEO and Chairman Clark Hunt said in 2018. "And we had some issues with Kareem (Hunt) not being truthful about what had happened that night. We just really felt, for everybody’s best interest, we needed to head in a different direction.”

Hunt has since played for his hometown Cleveland Browns in the five seasons following his release, working as the primary backup to Nick Chubb. He appeared in 64 games with 11 starts with the Browns, amassing 577 carries for 2,285 yards and 25 rushing touchdowns during that span.

Hunt, 29, was not re-signed by the Browns this past offseason. He has been working out and staying ready for his next opportunity, which may be a chance for him to redeem himself with his former team. At the very least, he'll have a workout.
