Jets can make Aaron Rodgers extremely happy and end months long headache with massive in-season trade

To quote the great Michael Keaton in the movie Batman, “you wanna get nuts? C’mon, lets get nuts”.

The Jets currently sit at 2-1 after utterly dismantling the former bully of the AFC East, the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football by a final of 24-3 at MetLife Stadium. New York faces the Denver Broncos in the Zach Wilson revenge game this Sunday, although I imagine he will remain fully on the bench where he belongs.

With 10 days off after playing three games in the first 11 days of the season, the Jets finally had time to step back and take a breath to evaluate where they are. And one question still hangs over this organization as it has for the best six month- what to do with Haason Reddick.

Reddick has still yet to show his face in the building after his introductory press conference back in March and the Jets continue to operate under the assumption that he will show up eventually. It makes sense for him to show up for a lot of financial reasons which have been discussed at length. Even after losing Jermaine Johnson to a season ending Achilles injury, it still doesn’t make sense for the Jets to give in to Reddick.

So, if Reddick won’t show up, and the Jets won’t pay him until he does, they have reached an impasse. Which could mean the Jets trade Reddick to try and recoup some of what they lost in obtaining him (a 2026 third round pick).

So, let’s trade him. Here are a few deals I would consider if I were Joe Douglas to finally end the drama-filled Jets tenure of Haason Reddick.

Trade 1 – Go For Broke

While the Jets were enjoying their Sunday off, they might have watched the Carolina Panthers embarrass the Las Vegas Raiders at home by a final of 36-22. After the game, Raiders’ head coach Antonio Pierce said the team might be making some “business decisions” this week.

Could one of those business decisions be to trade Davante Adams? I watched every Raiders’ offensive play of that game, and I didn’t see Adams take any plays off, so I don’t think he is who Pierce was referring to. That being said, if a team is willing to sell, you should be looking to buy a talent like that.

Jets receive: WR Davante Adams, 2025 sixth-round pick
Raiders receive: EDGE Haason Reddick, WR Mike Williams, Jets 2025 second-round pick, Jets 2025 fifth round pick.

The Jets go all-in on their offense and trust Ulbrich and Saleh to make the defense as good as it can be with what they have. Mike Williams eases the burden for the Raiders offense while not sinking them into a financial nightmare at receiver as Williams is only signed for one year. Williams becomes obsolete for the Jets if they make this move considering they can’t really move on from Allen Lazard at this point. The Raiders get a star pass-rusher to pair with Maxx Crosby and plenty of draft ammo to build on a team that is still two or three years away from really competing in a division that includes Patrick Mahomes.

Trade 2 – Build for the Future

    Jets receive: 2025 third-round pick, 2025 sixth-round pick
Bears receive: EDGE Haason Reddick, 2025 fifth round pick.

The Bears have been trying to up their pass rush game for a few seasons but can’t seem to land the big fish. They missed on Matthew Judon earlier this offseason when he got traded to the Atlanta Falcons, so to get a player of Reddick’s ability would be a big win for them. The Jets recoup more than they lost in the original Reddick deal and the headache goes away.

    Trade 3 – I’m Sorry

    Jets receive: EDGE Bryce Huff
    Eagles receive: EDGE Haason Reddick

Bryce Huff’s tenure with the Eagles so far as been almost as bad as the Reddick’s tenure with the Jets. There are already calls for him to be benched and/or cut in Philadelphia. Huff is playing like a fish out of water. Maybe everyone says, “I’m sorry” and we go back to the way things were.

Trade 4 – Playing the Middle

Jets receive: 2025 fifth-rounder, EDGE James Houston
    Lions receive: Haason Reddick

AtoZSports.com Detroit Lions writer Mike Payton proposed this trade and it’s not terrible, but it certainly isn’t knocking my socks off. Houston is a decent player but I’m not sure the Jets are getting any sort of value other than “something” in this deal. This deal feels like a give-up and get it over with move by Joe Douglas. I don’t see Douglas ready to admit defeat with Reddick which is what this deal would be.

I am not in a rush to trade Reddick the way some in the media are claiming the Jets should be. They still hold so much leverage in his “negotiations”. Not only does his wallet shrink every week he doesn’t show up, but I also think his future earnings take a hit as well. I’m not saying he won’t get a deal next year, I’m just saying it’s a lot harder to give a guy who sat out an entire year at 30-years old the same contract than if he played.

I hope he performs a mea culpa and shows up to play this season for the Jets, but trades are always fun to think about in the meantime.

Trade 1 is absurd. Jets should keep Williams and resign him next year. It’s Davante straight up for Reddick
