Ohio State is scoring over 52 points a game and has one of the best offenses in college football to start the season. While the Buckeyes have yet to be tested, everything is working on offense. Ohio State has is averaging 241 rushing yards a game and 311 passing yards a game.

When it comes to the passing game, most of the talk has been around freshman phone wideout Jeremiah Smith and senior Emeka Egbuka. Both are great players and future NFL talents, however, there is another wide receiver playing very well to start the season.

Carnell Tate is in his second year with Ohio State and is playing well to start the season. While he doesn’t have the same eye-popping numbers, Tate has carved out a nice role and is a key player in the offense.

"His accountability is tremendous. His blocking, his routes. He's carving out his own legacy here,” head coach Ryan Day said on Tuesday. “He's extremely talented running routes and catching balls, you can see all that, but he's becoming a complete football player."

Tate is second on the team in catches (11) and third in receiving (167) through three games so far. The talented sophomore has one touchdown so far on the season.

The 6-foot-3 Chicago native is a willing blocker and a fluid route runner who can get open without issue. On many other teams around the country, Tate would undoubtedly be their No. 1 wide receiver. Instead, he is part of a very good group in Columbus.

Tate is a former five-star recruit in the class of 2023 who was able to make a slight impact even as a freshman. Now as a sophomore, Tate is a key pass catcher for quarterback Will Howard.

With only being a sophomore, Tate will have this season and next in Columbus at least. After that, he is very well a player that could end up an early-round NFL draft pick. Perhaps that is the legacy he is building toward that Day mentioned.
