Ohio State has yet to be tested at all in their 3-0 start to this college football campaign. The offense is humming and the defense has looked good. However, the Buckeyes have only played Akron, Western Michigan, and Marshall.

Speaking of the offense, the Buckeyes are averaging over 52 points a game with one of the best units in the country. The running game has been great with the two-headed monster of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson.

Will Howard has connected with freshman Jeremiah Smith and senior Emeka Egbuka a ton early on to ignite the passing game. However, there is still one part of the offense that has yet to be shown.

"I don't think I've put on tape that I can run much and I think I'm excited to do that,” Howard said on Tuesday. “I think there are a lot more opportunities for me to show that and defenses to respect that. The older I've gotten, the more I've seen these pictures. I'm the run-game coordinator at the end of the day."

One of the attractive things about landing Howard was his ability to run the ball. The Buckeyes did not have that last year with Kyle McCord at the helm and it appeared at times they could really use it. Howard has been a proven runner over his college career, though he hasn’t done it yet in Columbus. The reasoning likely being is that he just hasn’t had to, as stated that the Buckeyes haven’t exactly been tested.

Last season with Kansas State, Howard ran for just over 350 yards and added a whopping nine touchdowns on the ground. As a freshman, he had a nice 364 yards rushing in nine games. Now in Columbus, Howard is in the best shape of his life and has become even faster. That should bode well for being an even better runner.

So far, Howard has 22 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground in three games. He has tucked the ball and ran just eight times.

As far as fitting in with the Buckeyes, everything's going well for the graduate transfer and it has been exactly what he wanted.

"I think that's a credit to the people in this building,” Howard said on being accepted. “They all took us in and accepted us as one of their own from the very start. That is something that I will forever be eternally grateful for. We all came in with the right attitude."

Ohio State will open up Big Ten play on Saturday at Michigan State . It will be a step up in competition and perhaps a chance for Howard to use his legs.
