The Matt Sluka story continues to evolve. The UNLV quarterback announced on social media that he'd step down from the team's starting role in order to redshirt as he protests the lack of NIL funding that he was promised.

More information continues to roll out, and you can read about the situation here . However, the lack of support from Sluka's teammates on social media has been fascinating to track. See below for tweets from his fellow UNLV peers.

This one is a response from star wide receiver Ricky White, who agreed with the original poster that the backup quarterback would be better than Sluka.

This is from Cameron Oliver, a starting cornerback on the Rebels.

Jackson Woodard, a senior linebacker, also showed support for Hajj-Malik Williams getting the starting gig.

Finally, for now, former UNLV quarterback Doug Brumfield chimed in.

This is the current state of affairs of college sports. NIL is as close to professional spots that the NCAA provides. So, if a college/university promises a specific amount of NIL monies to a player coming out of the transfer portal and the player makes the commitment to play for that college/ university, the institution has to be held accountable to their promises. A college player who still has eligibility has no other recourse than to sit out. Professional athletes have a union and arbitration to handle such matters. This player is on his own. Other players should be encouraged by his actions so that institutions don't screw them as well.
