Notre Dame football comes into this week in a must win game against the Louisville Cardinals , who dominated them last season in decisive fashion 33 to 20, and that game was not nearly as close as that score might indicate. There could be some revenge on the Irish’s mind this weekend, and they might need it. Their margin for error is practically nonexistent at this point.

So far this season, Notre Dame has not been overly impressive at home. That includes their 16 to 14 loss to Northern Illinois, and their ugly victory against Miami (OH) last week. Is this the week Notre Dame turns it around? Let’s hope so.

On paper, this is a matchup against two tremendous defenses. The winner could ultimately be who is able to move the ball more consistently. The pressure is going to be on Irish quarterback Riley Leonard , who will need to continue to make more plays down the field, as well as being the dynamic runner that he is.

The Irish defense must also do a good job to slow down a potent Louisville passing attack led by head coach Jeff Brohm. There is an outstanding group of pass catchers to help signal caller Tyler Shough. Notre Dame will have to limit pass catchers like Chris Bell, Ja’Corey Brooks, and possibly Caullin Lacy from making a lot of big plays.
