The Miami Dolphins are the not so proud owners of one of the worst stats in the NFL through three weeks

The Miami Dolphins are off to a poor start in 2024.  With a 1-2 record and a mess of a backup quarterback situation in the aftermath of Tua Tagovailoa going on injured reserve , the team has looked like a shell of a group expected to compete for the AFC East crown this season.

And yet, somehow, the record is even better than one particular stat indicates should be the case.  According to ESPN, the Dolphins are the only team in the NFL this season to not lead for one second of game time.

That's a pretty befuddling stat for one of the best offenses (supposedly) in the NFL.  But it is undoubtedly a fact for this team this season.

The Dolphins trailed for all of their season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are looking like perhaps the worst team in the NFL through three weeks. If not for a Jevon Holland forced fumble near the goal line as the Jaguars were about to go up 24-7, then the Dolphins would almost assuredly be the winless team out of the two.

Instead, Miami managed to drive 31 yards in the final two minutes to give Jason Sanders a look at a walk-off winner from 52 yards away.  Sanders delivered, and the scoreboard changed to Dolphins 20, Jaguars 17 with no time left.  Indeed, that's still the only lead of the season for Miami.

The Dolphins fell behind the Bills 7-0 just five minutes into the game, and the gap widened significantly thereafter.  Everyone knows what happened there. No need to rehash that.

On Sunday, Seattle scored 10 points in the first 8 minutes and change, and with Miami's offense in shambles, that's all they'd need, although they'd deliver a second straight 21-point loss to Miami when all was said and done.

Miami is going to have to find an answer at quarterback over the next three weeks against the Titans at home and then at the Patriots and Colts.  At least enough to give them a fighting chance at scoring more points than you can count on two hands.  Because if they don't, this ugly streak of scoreboard futility is likely to continue.

And a once-hopeful season will truly be lost before Halloween.
