Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah continue to be proven right after moving on from former top NFL Draft pick

The Minnesota Vikings' 2022 NFL Draft class is one that has faced major scrutiny. They don't have their top two picks from the class and you can argue the best pick from 2022 was made in the sixth round. That's not the kind of result that you want.

It was general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah's first NFL Draft and he was on the job for just 14 weeks. He didn't have all the systems and people in place he wanted to have. It's not an excuse, but you can see how he's evolved his decision-making over the last two years.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was right in moving on from Andrew Booth Jr.

One of the trades that Adofo-Mensah made during training camp was to move on from cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. He was the second-ever pick by Adofo-Mensah at 42nd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, but it was the trade that he made during training camp that shows his growth.

They knew that Booth wasn't going to turn into the player they thought he could so they prevented themselves from investing in a sunk cost by sending him to the Dallas Cowboys for another cornerback Nahshon Wright. Both players were in danger of being cut so it was a low-risk move for both teams. Wright made the Vikings practice squad while Booth made the active roster under defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

After a seven tackle, performance in the preseason, some were claiming that the trade for Booth was a steal. Well, if you get that kind of production in a preseason game, that isn't always a good thing.

Booth was forced into action when Caelen Carson went down with injury and it didn't take long for the New York Giants to take advantage of him being on the field. they called a double move with rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers and he posterized Booth like Allen Iverson with the crossover.

When you play for Zimmer, you can't bite that hard on the double move. Heck, you can't do that in pretty much every defense. It's been an issue for Booth since his days at Clemson, as he is very aggressive by nature.

The Vikings made the right call moving on from him after two years because he hasn't developed much at all. It also shows the development of Adofo-Mensah, who isn't wasting a roster spot on a player who isn't going to be a part of their present or future.
