Cowboys have obvious roster cut to make right after Giants game and it should've happened in August

As I watched Dallas Cowboys cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. get the start against the New York Giants in the light of the absence of DaRon Bland and Caelen Carson, I kept thinking of my reaction to him making the 53-man roster back in August.

Let's just say it wasn't quite positive, and I actually listed it as one of the biggest roster surprises. Here's what I wrote:

I gotta be honest: I don't get the Andrew Booth Jr. hype. He was bad in coverage during the preseason , including giving up to deep passes and it could've been three had a Raiders receiver not dropped one pass. He did stand out as a tackler but part of that had to do with the number of catches allowed in the first place.

To make room for him, the Cowboys cut Kemon Hall, who Mike McCarthy described as a player who couldn't stop making plays in practice.

Booth Jr. got the start, which was not a guarantee considering the Cowboys could've gone with Jourdan Lewis outside while playing Israel Mukuamu at nickel, or even ask the latter to play outside straight up.

How did it pan out for Dallas? Well, Booth Jr. was in the bench by the start of the third quarter, after consistently being beaten by Daniel Jones and his friends, primarily Malik Nabers, who didn't take long to make him look like he didn't belong on the field on Thursday by pulling off a nasty double move that had the former Clemson Tiger lost.

The Cowboys went to practice squad cornerback Amani Oruwariye in the second half, who wasn't much better. However, the Cowboys are set to get DaRon Bland in Week 5, as Mike McCarthy told reporters earlier in the week the Pittsburgh Steelers game was always the landmark for Bland to return.

The Cowboys gotta make a move on Booth Jr., whatever happens with Bland and the rest of the team's defensive backs. He didn't prove he was good enough in August and wasted an unearned opportunity on Thursday.
