Michigan Football has possibly found the perfect NIL donor to bankroll their massive need at quarterback

Michigan Football might be 3-1 through the first four weeks of the college football season, but that winning record hasn't come easy. Thanks to some of the worst quarterback play in the entire history of the Michigan Wolverines program it's now clear that Sherrone Moore and company have exactly zero shot at making the inaugural 12-Team College Football Playoff in the season following their national championship victory.

Thankfully, the embarrassing quarterback woes of Davis Warren and Alex Orji might not have to be endured for long. On Thursday's episode of Barstool Sports' "Barstool Pick Em" show Dave Portnoy decided to make an exciting announcement. Whether he was completely serious or not--and if he'll actually follow through--is up for debate. But Portnoy said that he will "go out and get Michigan a top 10 QB every year" with NIL money if they'll have him.

"Michigan, I will be your quarterback guy...I'll talk to Sherrone [Moore]. Who do you guys want? Who's in there? Give me a group. I'll go get them. I will sign them. Million, two million, whatever it is...3 million?...I can get a quarterback. We don't have a quarterback....I'm going to get us a top 10 quarterback in the portal coming out every year, a top 10 quarterback...Have them do a college football "hit" [on the Pardon My Take show]. $3 million dollar marketing agreement. I think that's legal!"

In today's college football world, if Dave Portnoy wants to sign a $3 million dollar marketing agreement with a prospective quarterback that gets that player to sign with Michigan he can do so. Thanks to the NCAA's wild streak of ineptitude, there are now nearly zero restrictions, zero rules, zero structure of any kind when it comes to NIL deals and player compensation. So, believe it or not, Portnoy could actually make this happen.

This kind of thing has been speculated on and joked about for some time, but Portnoy is just coming right out and saying the quiet part out loud when it comes to NIL. He's sick of Michigan's quarterback situation saying, "We [as in Michigan fans] don't have one."

Davis Warren threw six interceptions on just 72 passes to open the year. Alex Orji managed just 32 total passing yards in Michigan's victory that would have likely been a loss if not for another pick-six from Will Johnson. The quarterback situation is just truly abysmal.

We'll see if Sherrone Moore and Michigan actually want to take the founder of Barstool Sports up on his offer, but surely they can't actually believe they have any long-term answer at quarterback on the roster right now. Hopefully, for Michigan fans, Alex Orji's dual threat ability can be enough to help the Wolverines fake their way through the majority of their remaining games, but they're going to need to try something different in future seasons if they want to get back to competing at the highest levels of the sport.
