Vols insider details how Tennessee gave Oklahoma a true 'Welcome to the SEC' moment beyond just giving the Sooners a loss

The Oklahoma Sooners learned first-hand this past weekend what life is really like in the SEC.

Not only did Oklahoma suffer a 25-15 loss to the Tennessee Vols on a night where the Sooners' defense played at an elite level, but OU also lost numerous key players for their matchup this weekend against Auburn.

Oklahoma released their updated injury report on Thursday for their game against Auburn on Saturday and it revealed that the Sooners will be without five wide receivers and one of their top running backs.

Tennessee plays a physical brand of football and Oklahoma clearly felt that last Saturday night in Norman.

"I think for Oklahoma's offense, it was more physical than they anticipated it being," said VolQuest's Brent Hubbs on Friday during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone's Ramon, Kayla, and Will .

"Offensively, they don't know what hit them," added Hubbs. "Tennessee, there were multiple plays in the first half of that football game where you just looked at Oklahoma players and they were just getting up slower and slower. Because they took a pounding. Tennessee plays, and I mean this as a compliment, they're violent on defense. They arrive at the football with really bad intentions."

"All three levels of the defense, the physicality and the violence they play with is a separator for me with this defense compared to some of the recent defenses we've seen at Tennessee," added Hubbs. "I'm not ready to call them the '98 (Vols) defense or even maybe the 2005 defense that was really good. We'll see as it builds over time. But this defense reminds of the violence that those groups played with."

That last line from Hubbs has to excite fans. Tennessee's defense has bad intentions when they're on the field. And that's why this Volunteers defense has a shot to be the best in the country this season if they can stay healthy through the grind of an SEC schedule.
