While Ohio State is winning on the field, worry is growing that a five-star commit could flip to SEC school

While things are going well on the field for the 3-0 Ohio State Buckeyes, who are getting ready to play Michigan State on Saturday, the same can not be said about the recruiting trail.

In this era of college football recruiting, it is getting harder and harder to hold onto commitments up until signing day. That is especially the case with the top players in the country.

Ohio State five-star cornerback commitment Na’eem Offord will once again visit Auburn this weekend when they play Oklahoma and that is another bad sign for the Buckeyes.

The Tigers have been heavily on the trail of Offord lately , who plays his high school football in Birmingham, Alabama. According to the 247 Sports’ Composite rankings , Offord is the No. 9 player in the country overall and the No. 3 cornerback. Offord was at Auburn last month as well and it is clear at this point that the Tigers are doing everything they can to flip him.

Offord has been committed to Ohio State since February but is still weighing his options it appears. He will visit Oregon in October as well, a school that has the commitment of five-star Ohio player Trey McNutt. Offord is one of two high-level cornerbacks that Ohio State has in this class, joining Devin Sanchez. The Buckeyes were in the race for Oregon commit Dorian Brew heavily, but he ended up with the Ducks.

In this classic Offord is a top-3 commit and it would be a loss for the Buckeyes. Last year they came away with Aaron Scott Jr. and Bryce West, but bringing in another strong class is key to continue pumping in talent.

With National Singing Day still a couple of months away, the Buckeyes are just going to have to continue to fight to hold onto the commitment. What makes things a little more worrisome is that there are no concrete plans to visit Columbus this fall for Offord.

More wordplay! "Commitment" means just that: all in, locked up, signed, sealed, delivered, done!". Just a weasel word now that means nothing---just as it has for a long time in relationships.
