The Oklahoma Sooners should not be 4-1 right now. But, they are, no matter how messy and ugly these wins have been, they are wins nonetheless. The biggest reason why, well, the defense. The second biggest reason why:

Michael Hawkins Jr., the true freshman quarterback.

On Saturday, he made his first-ever start. He's played a few times this year, including the last game when head coach Brent Venables decided to bench Jackson Arnold for a spark.

Hawkins provided a spark, and Venables decided to stay with Hawkins for the time being. And, while I wasn't on the "Jackson Arnold is the problem" train like a lot of other fans and media members, it's clear that Venables made the right decision.

Before we go any further, let's commend Arnold for how he's handled the situation. And, I don't think that was the last we saw of him.

But, I think Hawkins has shown that he is the real deal, and has the potential to be a very good quarterback in the future. Let's not forget, he's a true freshman. He went into one of the toughest places to play in the country and won Oklahoma their first-ever SEC win in a magical way.

He did it with his legs, scrambling for a 48-yard touchdown, something Arnold hasn't done , and he did it with his arm, dropping a dime to J.J. Hester near the sideline.

But, one of the best moments he had on Saturday was something he did off of the field. Yes, even better than the flying two-point conversion.

After the game, Hawkins ran over to his parents, and hugged them both, with all of them very emotional, including former Sooners player Michael Hawkins, his father. It was an amazing moment that he will remember for the rest of his life, as will Sooners fans.
