The Jets have a problem that isn’t going to go away any time soon and they showed it against the Broncos

The New York Jets are supposed to know how to win ugly. After last season when they eeked out seven wins. But apparently that didn’t carry over to 2024.

In what might be one of the ugliest games of the year, the New York Jets lost to the Denver Broncos by a final of 10-9. It was a disgusting game in terms of the weather, and it was even worse for the Jets offense. Even worse than that was the coaching.

The New York Jets are arguably one of the most talented teams in the NFL. You may meet an obnoxious fan who is loyal to another team, or a miserable Jets fan on social media that will tell you they aren’t, but the simple fact is the Jets are more talented than 90% of the league top to bottom. So why are they 2-2 at the end of the first month of the season with only one victory that lived up to the talent ( last Thursday Night against the New England Patriots)?

In a word: coaching. I have long been a defender of Robert Saleh. I have interviewed him in the past and seen his ability to lead men. He knows football and is very charismatic. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because he has been saddled with some of the worst quarterbacks I have seen ever collected on a team. The game against the Broncos showed just how out of his league he is when it comes to other coaching.

The Jets should never have lost that game to the Broncos. They are just a far better squad top to bottom. They lost because this talented team is poorly coached. The Jets once again had far too many penalties. 15 penalties were called against the Jets and 13 of them were accepted. This is an undisciplined team. And frankly, I’m sick of him telling us it is going to be cleaned up.

And what’s worse for Bobby Saleh, is that his way of cleaning it up is to make things simpler. Not fixing the problem and holding players accountable, but to take away one of Aaron Rodgers’ most unique weapons, his cadence. Saleh wants Rodgers to “dial back” his cadence in order for his offense to stop committing pre-snap penalties. This was an idea that Rodgers doesn’t seem to keen on.

What an absolute joke for this head coach. He wants to take away Rodgers’ cadence and the unique weapon it is, because he can’t coach a team to not jump offsides? Ridiculous.

And he isn’t the only coach who should be under the microscope. Nathaniel Hackett is one of the worst play callers in the NFL and is living by Aaron Rodgers’ ability to audible. The Jets play selection today, especially at the end of the game was one of the worst I’ve seen in Hackett’s tenure as OC. They did straight drop back passing on third and one or third and goal instead of using Braelon Allen or Breece Hall.

The Jets are a middle school offense that is one of the least creative and least unique in the NFL. Hackett does absolutely nothing to create mismatches with the weapons he has. Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall are not put in any sort of position to create one on one mismatches.

The Jets have a coaching problem, and I don’t think it is going to get fixed any time soon. They are going to have to rely solely on their talent to go anywhere this season.
