It's no secret that many New England Patriots fans want to see Drake Maye start immediately.

And now that the team has lost three straight games, people are more impatient than ever. So on Monday morning, Jerod Mayo sent a message to Patriots Nation about the current quarterback situation.

"Jacoby is 100% our starter," Mayo said. "He's 100% our starter and that's how we're going to look at this going forward. Hopefully I cleared it up."

But Mayo is not blind to what is being said.

"They want to see the third overall pick play," Mayo mentioned on WEEI. "And I understand the frustration from the fans, I understand the frustration from you guys in here (media).

"What we’re doing is what we think is best. What I'm doing is what I think is best for the Patriots today and also in the future, and that's how I have to look at these things. You guys look at these things on a week-to-week basis. I think there's a combination of multiple things I have to deal with."

The head coach knows that Brissett's play hasn't been perfect. He even had a blunt assessment of the quarterback's interception on Sunday that resulted in a San Francisco 49ers pick-6.

"It was just a poor decision," Mayo said. "A poor throw."

But overall, Mayo has liked what he's seen from Brissett both on and off the field.

"He's done a good job doing what we've asked," Mayo told reporters. "Are there a lot of plays that we could do a better job with? Absolutely, but I would never question his toughness, his dependability, his leadership style for this team, and that's what we need right now."

If the Patriots continue losing, this will continue to be a question that Jerod Mayo is asked. But all we can do at this point is just wait and see.
