Oklahoma Sooners to potentially get an unpleasant surprise after the bye before they face Texas

The Oklahoma Sooners may be getting an unpleasant surprise when they face the Texas Longhorns after a bye week. Sure, they could get a pleasant surprise by getting some of their players back from injuries. But, there is some potentially bad news for the Sooners, too.

For the last three weeks, redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning has been playing. He's been good, too. He's shown that he has a bright future in college football. But, now the starter is back in Quinn Ewers, according to OrangeBloods on Wednesday , and, that is bad news for the Sooners.

Sure, Manning is great. Manning completed 71% of his passes for 901 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions while filling in for Ewers. He's made some really good throws over the last three weeks. But, Ewers is the starter for a reason. He's great, and will likely be drafted very soon as a pretty high pick, too.

Ewers only played the first two games of the season before dealing with an injury during the third game. That's when Manning came in and was electric. But, Ewers has the experience behind him, along with built-up chemistry, and IQ, and has won a lot of football games, especially last year.

For the Sooners, this is bad news because a defense like theirs would much rather play a young quarterback who is more prone to make mistakes because of different looks. Manning is much more prone to throw a costly interception.

Ewers is more likely to carve up the defense than Manning is, especially against a great Brent Venables defense that will be complex to break. That's just facts, not a slight at Manning, who will likely be a Heisman winner one day.
