Deion Sanders reveals one team he wants to select Shedeur Sanders amid QB injury concerns

While the Miami Dolphins are still dealing with concerns over Tua Tagovailoa’s long-term prognosis and ability to help the team, others are making plans for a replacement quarterback.

During a Sunday appearance on the Nightcap show with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, Colorado's head coach Deion Sanders subtly suggested that the Dolphins could be a potential destination for his son, Shedeur Sanders, in the 2025 NFL draft.

"What do you do business-wise if you're the Dolphins?" Sanders said around the 47-minute mark (h/t Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk). "Do you go into the draft and take a quarterback, which is what I'm saying, or do you say, 'Tua, let's check this out, let's see what we're going to do.' Is his health more important than that?"

"So you just got the revelation, huh? I tried to feed you the revelation," he said.

Johnson mentioned Shedeur's potential move to the Dolphins, which Sanders appeared to confirm.

Miami's quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sidelined with his third concussion in as many seasons during Week 2, resulting in his placement on injured reserve. The Dolphins have faced a losing streak in his absence, dropping three games in a row.

Shedeur has excelled as the quarterback for the Buffs this season. With a completion rate of 70.1 percent, he has thrown for 1,630 yards and 14 touchdowns while only being intercepted three times. According to our most recent big board , he is currently the top-ranked quarterback for the 2025 draft.

However, drafting a quarterback to take over from Tagovailoa seems unlikely for the Dolphins. He recently secured the largest contract in the team's history, a four-year extension worth $212.4 million.

Further details on the financial implications of Tagovailoa potentially retiring can be found here.

There's also a possibility of him returning to play before the season ends, as ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that Tagovailoa is now free of symptoms from his concussion and could be back as early as Week 8.

While the Buffaloes' quarterback is expected to attract interest from several teams needing a quarterback in the 2025 draft, Miami might not be among those teams.

I personally opined that Miami should have opted against paying Tagovailoa right away, as the injury concerns and his limited physical upside make it difficult to see this team becoming a major Super Bowl threat. This season has reinforced that the Dolphins' roster is quite limited beyond its top names and needs rebuilding in the trenches once again.

Barring another injury, Miami will need to consider adding a premier pass-rusher (Mason Graham or James Pearce), cornerback (Will Johnson or Travis Hunter), or blocker (Will Campbell or Kelvin Banks). The team's cap sheet for 2025 is so bad that adding Sanders doesn't immediately help them win, and that's never going to work under a reactive owner.
