The Alabama Crimson Tide lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday by a score of 40-35, falling into a trap that you could see from a mile away .

One of those people was HC Kalen DeBoer, who gave an answer to the team's number-one ranking that Nick Saban would love .

Well, it turns out his players missed the message:

Alabama Falls A Week into #1 Ranking

"Yeah, I mean, we haven't talked about it one single time here as a team, we really haven't," said DeBoer when asked about the #1 ranking. "We know that what's most important is where we're at, at the end. We covered a few different things during the summer just about, you know, whether it's rankings and how we're going to handle it, or even what the playoff picture looks like, and just discussing and being educated on what that's going to look like on July 2, one of our meetings that we had for the guys, before we went on the Fourth of July break. And, you know, as far as it goes for these guys, you know, the most important game is the next one, and we keep winning, it will all take care of itself. So that's what the focus is. That's where our attention is. And the guys really they get that because they've been through it before, and they understand it's a long season."

The Tide saw what a long season looked like on Saturday, losing the turnover battle, yardage mark, and ultimately the game after clearly overlooking the Commodores in a contest that saw them enter as nearly 25-point favorites .

For now, The Tide's attention turns to the South Carolina Gamecocks, as the team approaches the halfway mark of the season down a game that many pegged a win back in March.
