NFL hits Browns defender with bad news right after his season-ending injury he suffered

Last week against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Cleveland Browns took a loss on the chin and lost a former third-round draft pick for the season.

Defensive end Alex Wright injured his triceps and it required surgery . The Browns placed him on the injured reserve, but that is not it. Wright’s week didn’t get any better, as on Saturday he was fined by the NFL.

The league fined Wright $7,743 for his roughing the passer penalty in the third quarter. Wright was flagged for coming into the head/neck region of Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew.

So, the same week that Wright is injured for the season, he also has his bank account penalized. Not the best of weeks for the 2022 NFL Draft pick for Andrew Berry.

After having not a single sack as a rookie, Wright became a nice contributor for the Browns defense last season with five sacks. This season he already had a sack and was an impactful pass rusher as depth. In his absence, the Browns are going to have to rely on second-year defensive end Isaiah McGuire and defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo more.

A defense that is so reliant on Myles Garrett being a superstar still needs secondary pass rushers to step up. That is up to Smith, McGuire, and Okoronkwo, as well as help from the interior of the defensive line.

Cleveland is now taking on the Washington Commanders today and will look to get out of the 1-3 hole they are in.
