The Indianapolis Colts came up short in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and are now 2-3 on the year.

Following their loss, the team decided to part ways with a player whose coverage lapse led to the Jaguars' biggest play of the day.

The Colts announced that they have waived cornerback Dallis Flowers. Flowers joined the Colts in 2022 as an undrafted free agent. He appeared in 13 games as a rookie, operating as the team's kick returner. He turned 23 returns into 715 yards, with an average return of 31.1 yards. His 31.1 yards per return was the most in the NFL by any player who had at least ten returns on the year. This led to him being named to the 2022 PFWA NFL All-Rookie Team.

After an impressive start to his career on special teams, the Colts decided to give Flowers the chance to earn a starting job at CB during training camp ahead of his second season. He was able to earn the job and started the 2023 season off strongly in coverage, but sadly, he suffered a torn chilies after just four games, which ended his season. He spent all offseason rehabbing and was viewed as healthy entering training camp. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to pick up right where he left off, as he struggled throughout training camp and the preseason. And it continued into the regular season, where he proved he could be trusted to play a large role on defense for the team. And it appears his lapse in coverage that allowed Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence to connect with rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr. for an 85-yard touchdown.
