Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin preparing to go without key star player against LSU Tigers in Week 7 SEC matchup

Ole Miss might have to go without one of their best players against the LSU Tigers this weekend in Baton Rouge. Lane Kiffin didn't seem too happy to talk about star wide receiver Tre Harris this week during one of his pressers. Harris was of course injured on Saturday and did not return to action.

Despite exiting Ole Miss' win over South Carolina early on Saturday, Tre Harris still holds a 100+ yard FBS lead in receiving yards with 885 on the season. Prior to his departure with the injury Harris had already hauled in three receptions for 81 yards, including this beautiful 57-yard catch and run on a pass where Jaxson Dart got hit on the throw.

Harris and Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart truly have one of the best connections in all of college football, so if he cannot play against Brian Kelly's talented LSU football team that could be a massive blow to the offense.

Lane Kiffin shared just how impactful Harris' presence (or the lack thereof) was in their game against South Carolina:

"As you guys know we don't really get into much detail on that.[Tre Harris] couldn't finish the first half and wasn't really close to going back in the second half. He certainly wouldn't be playing today. We've got to get the other guys ready. We've got to perform better than we did in the second half without him. We only had three points. Now, we only threw one pass in the fourth quarter, but you know that makes us move people in different spots when he's out. So, we're preparing to do that, and preparing to play without him."

Scoring just three points when your team's best player is out should be somewhat expected, but that's quite the drop off in offensive success from just one player's absence.

If you'd like to watch the full press conference to see Lane Kiffin's demeanor when answering this particular question and hear more from him on the LSU matchup you can find it all in the video below.

Ole Miss doesn't like to offer much clarity on their injured players, but the SEC's newly required injury designations should let us know where Harris stands by Friday (if not before). Harris snagged 8 receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown against the Tigers last year. Let's hope he's healthy enough to do the same again this weekend.
