Packers HC Matt LaFleur had the perfect message to Romeo Doubs after suspension

It’s been an eventful sequence of days for wide receiver Romeo Doubs. After skipping practice on Thursday and Friday because he was unhappy with his role within the Green Bay Packers offense, the receiver was suspended by the team on Saturday and missed the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

On Monday, he had a meeting with head coach Matt LaFleur , and the expectation is that he will be back with the Packers for the preparation ahead of the Arizona Cardinals game at Lambeau Field next weekend.

For LaFleur, it was a difficult balance between creating an environment where Doubs is feeling well, but at the same time making clear that the team is above anyone.

“I'm not gonna get into the details of any of that, but what I'll tell you is, and I've said this not only to him but to all our guys, is my job and our jobs as coaches is to put our team in the best position to have success,” the head coach said on his podcast this week. “I'm a big believer of that. With team success comes individual success. We've seen it over the course of our years here. In particular, when we win, everybody reaches the benefit of that. We wanna continue to do that and not gonna compromise what it takes to win games.”

Matt LaFleur’s main point is that Romeo Doubs is an important piece to the offense, but what makes it special is the variety of weapons, and the number of targets for each player depends on the gameplan, the opposing defense, and other factors.

“Ultimately, we do have a lot of players, not only on the offensive side of the ball, but on the defensive side of the ball, that we've got a lot of confidence in to go out there and make plays,” LaFleur added. “So, especially when you're talking about the offensive side, it's a good problem to have when you have a crowded receiver room and you have a couple tight ends you feel really confident in, and their ability to do things with the ball, and you have multiple guys in the backfield that you have confidence in that have proven when given opportunities that can make plays. So, it could change every game in terms of who's gonna get the touches. I think that's one of the beauties of our offense, is when you have a lot of players that can make plays, it makes it extremely difficult on a defense in terms of who do they want to stop.”

    Roster moves

Romeo Doubs was suspended on Saturday, which opened up a roster spot for the Packers. With that, they promoted cornerback Robert Rochell to the 53-man roster. Rochell was released after the game, on Monday, and the expectation is that he will be back to the practice squad — with the move, Green Bay saved an elevation for Rochell, and he can still be elevated from PS for gameday once this season, since he’s already been elevated twice.

The Packers haven’t activated Romeo Doubs yet, but the expectation is that it will happen later this week.

Daubs is a really good receiver, with great hands! He has repeatedly come up with the big 3rd down plays. Despite his actions, definitely a proven playmaker. Wicks, not so much.
