Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart provided an update on wide receiver Colbie Young, who was arrested on Tuesday morning on battery and assault charges.

"I got to speak to him this morning and he's been suspended indefinitely until the legal matter is resolved," Smart said during Wednesday's weekly SEC call. "And we can't really comment any further on the specifics of it but I had a good meeting with him this morning. And we're committed to educating our players and doing the best job we can of making sure they understand the serious nature of these incidents. It's very unfortunate but we want to be responsible in decision making on and off the field.
This is obviously a really tough situation, but he's suspended indefinitely until legal matter is resolved."

According to the incident report, Young's ex-girlfriend called the police after the two got into a heated argument and she felt unsafe. The girlfriend stated in the report that Young “grabbed her left arm near her bicep and tricep and physically pulled her out of his room.” She also claimed that Young “picked her up and began to squeeze her torso and abdomen very hard."

Young was booked at 4:18 a.m. on Tuesday with a $2,500 bond. He was released at 1:36 p.m.

Here's what Young's attorney, Kim Stephens, had to say about the incident, via Graham Coffey of Dawgs Central :

"Colbie Young was arrested last night after he asked his ex-girlfriend to leave his apartment. He did not make physical contact with her in any way that could ever be considered a crime. I expect Mr. Young to be fully exonerated once our investigation is complete and the truth revealed."

Young, a senior transfer from Miami, has played in all five games for the Bulldogs this season, logging 11 catches for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Georgia (4-1) will host Mississippi State (1-4) this Saturday at Sanford Stadium. With Young unavailable, there will be more opportunities for Dillon Bell and London Humphreys to step up.
