The Cincinnati Bengals were so close to getting back to full strength Wednesday afternoon, but a couple offensive starters missed the first practice of Week 6 with a "Sunday Night Football" showdown against the New York Giants on tap.

Tight end Mike Gesicki (hamstring) and running back Zack Moss (foot) were the only non-participants Wednesday. Moss went down during last Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens, while Gesicki didn't have a notable exit during the game.

Hamstring injuries have been all too common for Cincinnati this year. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (hamstring) made his long-awaited return to practice Wednesday as a limited participant. Rankins has missed the last three weeks since being injured in Week 2.

Rankins wasn't the only defensive starter to return this week. Nickelback Mike Hilton (knee) went full after missing all of last week and then Sunday against Baltimore. Hilton confirmed to reporters after practice that he'll be good to go.

Joseph Ossai (shoulder) was the only other limited participant along with Rankins. Everyone else who practiced went full including cornerback DJ Ivey (knee) in his first practice of the year, rookie defensive tackle Kris Jenkins Jr. (thumb) and rookie right tackle Amarius Mims (calf). Mims missed 20 snaps on Sunday after being carted off with what was labeled an ankle injury, but now it's listed as a calf injury.

Oh yeah, and quarterback Joe Burrow is still a full participant despite still dealing with his recovering wrist .

If all goes well Thursday and Friday, this will be the healthiest Cincinnati's defense has been all season. Gesicki and Moss will just need to be monitored on the other side of the ball.

As for the Giants, rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers (concussion) is still in the concussion protocol and is working towards practicing later in the week. The Bengals, according to head coach Zac Taylor, are preparing as if Nabers will be out there on Sunday.

Edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux (wrist) isn't likely to play as he's "week-to-week" according to head coach Brian Daboll. Thibodeaux missed practice along with Nabers and guard Jon Runyan (illness). Guard Greg Van Roten had a rest day.

Edge defender Brian Burns (ankle), cornerback Adoree' Jackson (calf), cornerback Andru Phillips (calf/shoulder), and running back Devin Singletary (groin) were all limited.
