Buffalo Bills expected to get a huge boost on defense for crucial AFC East MNF tilt with the Jets

Last week against the Houston Texans, it was clear that Buffalo's safety play was an area that the Texans offense wanted to exploit, and it proved to be particularly costly on Nico Collins' long touchdown reception.

Going against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets this coming Monday night, who might be playing desperate after firing their head coach Robert Saleh , Buffalo is expecting a huge boost with the return of starting safety Taylor Rapp.

Rapp played the first three games of the season as a starting safety opposite Damar Hamlin , and proved to be a steady and stabilizing asset on the back end of the defense. By no means would anyone say that he's a huge difference maker that is going to consistently make plays that will blow you away, but he was sound in his responsibilities, proved to be a good tackler, and was where was supposed to be.

Just having the presence of a safety that understands his role and has good communication with the rest of the secondary is a pivotal key to the success of the Bills' defense.

Without Rapp in the game, it was rookie Cole Bishop that got his first career start, to mixed reviews. Bishop and cornerback Rasul Douglas were clearly not on the same page as Collins ran by both of them, with Bishop's eyes glued to the backfield instead of making sure that Collins didn't get behind him.

Rapp being cleared from his concussion and returning for Monday night's game against the Jets is great news for the Bills secondary, and will help limit explosive plays from Aaron Rodgers to his top targets.

Buffalo is staring at a monumental Week 6 game that will either see them relinquish their lead in the AFC East on the back of three straight losses, or it will see them extend their division lead to two games. Rapp's availability could be a huge boost to their chances.
