Former Saints playmaker takes subtle shot at the team after his recent release

The New Orleans Saints made a surprising move recently when they let go off young side receiver A.T. Perry. Perry was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He showed flashes of downfield ability and red zone nuance last season. Perry caught four touchdowns last season.

That being said, he had not taken a snap for New Orleans over the first month of the regular season. Clearly, there was a disconnect somewhere, and the team chose to move on from the wideout.

Later last week, they picked up veteran interior offensive lineman Connor McGovern. He played meaningful snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Perry had a strong reaction when asked about the Saints' decision to move on from him rather early in the season.

A.T. Perry surprised by release from Saints

Parker Gabriel discussed the situation with Perry.

“It was kind of confusing for me,” the wide receiver said Thursday after his second day of practicing as a member of the Broncos’ practice squad. “Just wanting to play in that offense — (Derek Carr) was throwing the ball around and I wanted to be part of that. Unfortunately, I wasn’t. I was on the active roster but inactive (on game days) each week. They said it was my hand.

“It was kind of a shock that I was released just for them to bring another o-lineman in.”

His frustration is fairly clear. You can tell that he felt like he deserved a chance to make an impact for New Orleans this season and continue developing his own game.

Perry says that the team was using his hand injury as the reasoning for his inactive status on game days. Was that the case? We will probably never know from the Saints' perspective.

The young wideout joins Sean Payton's offense in Denver. Pete Carmichael Jr. will, once again, be his offensive coordinator after rejoining Payton following his firing from New Orleans.
