Literally minutes after taking off the Golden Hat trophy after beating Oklahoma, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian was already thinking about No. 5 Georgia.

Next Saturday’s matchup against Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs at Royal-Memorial Stadium promises to be on of the most anticipated matchups in recent Longhorns’ history.

Sarkisian stood in a stairwell inside the Cotton Bowl and filmed a hype message for Texas fans that was shared on the Longhorn Foundation’s social media account.

“Longhorn Foundation, what a great day to be a Longhorn today,” Sarkisian said, looking straight into the camera while holding a Fletcher’s Corny Dog. “Could not appreciate you guys more of just your support. You guys showed out today.

“I got my corn dog here after the big win, looking forward to that. But also looking forward to next week at DKR,” he added. “We got a big one with Georgia. We’ve got College GameDay coming. It’s going to be a night game. It’s going to be a great atmosphere. We’ve got to make DKR is rocking and an intimidating environment. We’ve got to keep this journey rolling.

    “Hook ’em, y’all.”

Saturday's game has been sold out for months. All UT home games are sold out this season. Stubhub had tickets listed anywhere from $394 to $4,387 on Sunday.

The 1990 Houston game has been long considered one of the loudest games in Texas lore. The third-ranked Cougars came to Austin and lost 45-24, triggering the last known field-storming by UT fans at DKR. That year’s team, known as the “Shock the Nation” tour, went 10-2 and got as high as No. 3 in the polls.

No. 1 Ohio State visited Austin in 2006 in the rematch of a non-conference matchup from 2005. The Horns were ranked second, making it a true 1-vs.-2 face-off. But Vince Young was gone by that point after winning the 2005 national title, and Colt McCoy was making his second career start. Texas lost 24-7.

The 2022 Alabama game had some buildup but only the diehards truly believed UT would win coming off a 5-7 campaign in 2021. The Tide rolled 20-19. Texas would get its revenge the following season with a non-conference win at Tuscaloosa.

Even during a post-game radio interview after the OU win, Sarkisian wouldn’t let up.

“I feel like Longhorn Nation stood up all game long. Y'all were tremendous,” Sarkisian said. “Your support has been amazing all year. Was obviously fun to celebrate with y'all there in the end zone.

“But I’m going to challenge Longhorn Nation again. We got a big game next week, and we need DKR rocking. Night game against a really good football team in Georgia. We need to make it the most intimidating, tough environment that it can be next Saturday night.”
