Jerry Jones wastes no time answering what every Cowboys fan is wondering after blowout loss

Something has to change if the Dallas Cowboys are to make it to the playoffs. That much was clear during Sunday's 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions in which the home team came out unprepared to play football.

Defensive injuries took a toll on the team but it's tough to use that as an excuse when the Lions' first non-scoring drive came until there were under five minutes to go left in the fourth quarter. Even starters like Trevon Diggs struggled to tackle or cover the high-powered Lions offense led by quarterback Jared Goff.

On offense, the Cowboys shook things up with their O-line setup only to end the game with no touchdowns and five turnovers. The running game produced 3.1 yards per attempt and Dak Prescott completed 51.5% of his passes for a total 178 yards to end the game.

This was the kind of loss that gets people thinking about heads rolling midseason. In this case, many wondered if Mike Zimmer or perhaps even Mike McCarthy could face the wrath of the front office. Immediately after the game, Cowboys owner provided an unsurprising answer.

"I'm not ready to talk about changes right now," Jones told reporters via The Athletic's Jon Machota. "I'm not considering (coaching changes)."

If it's not coaching changes, then Jones better have an ace up under his sleeve ahead of the bye week because something has to happen. If coaching is not the issue, then it has to do with the players. Is the front office planning on pulling off a trade to upgrade at one position? It probably needs more than one.

Or will it be business as usual? Based on how the Cowboys have done things in recent years, I'm betting not much will happen from now until the team's Week 8 showdown against the San Francisco 49ers.

For now, fans can rule out any changes to the coaching staff, at least per Jerry Jones himself. Now we wait to see if the roster will be shaken up or if the Cowboys will expect things to change by the powerful force of hope.
