NFL insider says the Steelers currently don't have the 'appetite' to trade QB Russell Wilson

For the first time as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, QB Russell Wilson was active on Sunday, only he wasn't in the starting lineup.

Instead, he backed up QB Justin Fields, who led the team to their largest victory of the year, and a 4-2 record on the season.

But prior to kickoff, when it was clear that the Steelers were rolling with Fields despite a healthy Russell Wilson, some pondered if Wilson could be on the trade block.

That doesn't seem to be the case. Or at least not yet.

    Steelers not shopping Russell Wilson

"There have been no trade talks surrounding Russell Wilson," said NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero. "I don't get the sense there'd really be an appetite to trade him even if the phone rings.”

Wilson being trade bait may catch many by surprise, but following a 4-2 start where Justin Fields has shown the ability to either put the team on his back (see the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts games) or extend plays and make the most of what's around him, it's clear he's the team's best option at signal caller.

"I thought he did a nice job, particularly making some things happen with his legs, managing the circumstances, and taking care of the ball,” Tomlin said of Fields after Sunday's game in Vegas.

There was also the report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic earlier in the day on Sunday where she said that the Steelers had no plans on shaking up the QB room, as they are more than content with what Fields has done to this point of the season.

It’s been made clear to me over the last few weeks that the locker room and coaching staff in Pittsburgh love Fields. So while the big question hovering over every game has been, Will Mike Tomlin make the switch to Russell Wilson now?, based on my read, the momentum Fields has built might make it impossible for a healthy Wilson to reclaim that spot at the top of the depth chart.

That doesn’t mean Wilson is done in Pittsburgh, it just means Fields has real support to be the guy for the Steelers.

So while it seems rich to suggest that the captain of the team could somehow be on the trade block, the Steelers have a more than capable backup in Kyle Allen and if someone were to come calling between now and Nov. 5th, (trade deadline) should Pittsburgh Keep winning, their appetite for trading Wilsom may become unsatiated.
