Josh Heupel offers blunt response to question about lack of explosive plays from Tennessee's offense

It's no secret that the Tennessee Vols' offense has struggled to create explosive plays over the last few weeks, which has led to a downtick in scoring for UT.

On Monday, after Tennessee managed just 23 points in an overtime win against the Florida Gators, Vols head coach Josh Heupel was asked specifically about a couple of deep throws that were missed in the Florida game.

And Heupel offered a clear reason for why those plays weren't made.

"All in all, wide receivers, quarterback, we gotta make it right," said Heupel. "Gotta hit some of those plays."

It really seems like it's that simple for Tennessee's offense -- the Vols just have to get on the same page with each other. There are plays there to be made, Tennessee just isn't hitting on those plays.

SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic pointed out on Sunday after reviewing the film of Tennessee's win against Florida that there are "plenty of chances down field " for UT's offense (Cubelic might be the only guy in the national media who doesn't think the Vols' offense is broken).

Tennessee's offense just needs to operate cleanly. They need to block better, they need to run better routes, they need to deliver more accurate passes, and they need to stop committing penalties that erase big gains. If the Vols can clean up the details and get on the same page, the sky is the limit for this offense.

All of the ingredients for an elite offense are there for Tennessee. They just gotta go out and execute.
