The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the building following their Week 6 bye week.

Soon they'll begin preparations for their Week 7 Super Bowl LVIII rematch with the San Francisco 49ers. Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke on the team's injury situation following the bye week and ahead of the upcoming practice week.

He provided an update on WR Rashee Rice following his surgery , accurately reporting the surgical repair Rice underwent. He also gave an update on RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire's return from the non-football illness list and an update on a player who dealt with a new injury during the bye week.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid gives update on WR Rashee Rice's surgery and recovery timeline

The Chiefs first feared an ACL injury with WR Rashee Rice. After receiving second opinions and meeting with a specialist, it was reported that Rice had surgery on his lateral collateral ligament and his hamstring. That doesn't appear to be the case. According to Chiefs HC Andy Reid, Rice underwent surgery on the posterolateral corner in his right knee.

"I can just give you a brief update on Rashee (Rice), his surgery was not his ACL, it was the posterolateral corner (PLC)," Reid said. "There's damage there. It's probably the same result, though, as you get time-wise for an ACL (injury). It takes a while for that, to come back and get into his rehab and get rolling."

Even though his injury was entirely different, the timeline is the same as if he were to have an ACL injury per Coach Reid. That means there is no chance of a potential playoff return for Rice. His 2024 NFL season will end with 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid is non-commital on the plan for RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire saw his practice week open ahead of Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints . He practiced in a limited capacity all week ahead of that game. Asked about his plan for Edwards-Helaire this week, Reid said he'd have to talk with the former first-round draft pick first.

"Yeah, so he'll be back in tomorrow," Reid said. "We'll be able to talk to him then. I haven't had a chance to talk to him here, so I want to just get with him first before I put anything out there publicly. But we're awfully glad to have him here."

If Edwards-Helaire doesn't return to the 53-man roster by the time his 21-day practice window has elapsed, he'll remain on a reserve list for the rest of the 2024 NFL season.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid reveals one new injury heading into Week 7 vs. 49ers

The Chiefs do have a new injury that they're working through as they get ready to face the 49ers. Mike Danna, who missed Week 4 against the Chargers with a calf injury , is now dealing with a pectoral injury.

"Yeah, the only one that was working on something was (Mike) Danna," Reid said. "Just, Mike had hurt his pec, and so, he's working through that. So he would be the only one that I'd have to that was working this past week on something."

Danna does have the benefit of the bye week to help him get right. Either way, this could mean more opportunities for DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE Malik Herring, and DE Cameron Thomas in Week 7 against the 49ers.
