Tennessee Vols part of uncommon sideshow at Sanford Stadium during Georgia Bulldogs' win over Mississippi State

The Tennessee Volunteers apparently found their name called out over the speakers at Sanford Stadium last Saturday.  That might be normal for November 16, when the teams meet in Athens.  However, it's a little odd when the Vols are on the field hundreds of miles away in Knoxville facing the Florida Gators.

The Georgia Bulldogs' opponent last Saturday was their mascot partner in crime, Mississippi State, but it was the Tennessee Vols who were called upon as a target for the Sanford Stadium crowd to boo during a timeout in the game.

Apparently, a Hulu series titled Chad Powers was being filmed, and Sanford Stadium was being used as the fictional venue.  According to WSB-TV Atlanta news reporter Alison Mastrangelo, the PA announcer reportedly encouraged the crowd to boo the central character and his team as they took the field by practicing their boos for when Tennessee is in town.

It's not unheard of for an actual college football crowd to be used as a set of tens of thousands of extras for a fictional story.  That happened back in the 1990s with the movie The Program , which was filmed at South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium. Now, it looks like the Vols' rival will get some publicity in the upcoming series with actor Glen Powell playing the titular character.

However, the boos, while directed at Tennessee, surely still won't be as loud as when Nico Iamaleava and the rest of his Volunteer teammates trot out of the Sanford Stadium tunnel in what could be a pivotal game for both team's playoff chances - depending on what happens this weekend .

We'll find out just how hostile that environment will be when toe meets leather between the SEC rivals on November 16.
