The Minnesota Vikings believe that offensive lineman Dalton Risner could be close to returning as they have activated his 21-day practice window.

One of the biggest issues surrounding the Vikings has been the offensive line . It's had issues for a long time, especially on the interior. Right now, the combination of Garrett Bradbury at center and Ed Ingram at right guard have been liabilities in pass protection. However, they have been mauling defenses in the run game, which helps keep them on the field.

The biggest question that many will have is whether Risner will push to play on the offensive line and potentially start. If training camp has told us anything, the answer is no.

While Risner was signed, the thought process was that he would end up pushing for a starting job. That theory would mean that Risner was getting any first-team snaps to prove that he should be the starter. During training camp, Risner didn't get a single snap on the first team to compete for that job. He wasn't viewed as that based on the actions of the coaching staff and the minimal contract that he signed.

It's also worth noting that Risner struggles a lot when run blocking. He couldn't climb the second level and block linebackers nor drive defenders back on the defensive line.

The Vikings will have 21 days to see what Risner has in the tank to see if they want to activate him or potentially move on.
