QB Garrett Nussmeier highlights multiple LSU Tigers receive accolades for their stellar performances against Ole Miss

The LSU Tigers needed a win over the Ole Miss Rebels to solidify their resume for the College Football Playoff heading into the stretch run and they got it with a 29-23 win on Saturday night. The game had a lot of impressive performances but three of them ended up getting awards.

The Tigers had three SEC Player of the Week award winners in week seven:

• QB Garrett Nussmeier: Offensive Player of the Week
• LB Whit Weeks: Co-Defensive Player of the Week
• DE Bradyn Swinson: Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week

Nussmeier had a tough game up until the fourth quarter. He only completed 22-51 passes but it was his resounding success in the fourth quarter and overtime that led the Tigers to victory.

“Hopefully, this will be a huge growth moment for me in taking my game to the next level," Nussmeier said . “I played bad, but we had a chance to win the ball game and I had to focus on that.”

It started with his throw to Aaron Anderson on fourth and five up the seam that tied the game. Earlier in the drive, he also hit tight end Mason Taylor on a fourth and six to extend the drive.

On the first play of overtime, Nussmeier ended up hitting star receiver Kyren Lacy on a double move for the game-winning touchdown. Nussmeier did a great job isolating Lacy in single coverage on the field side and sold the pump-fake well before hitting Lacy on the back shoulder.

Weeks was all over the field for the Tigers. He earned co-Defensive Player of the Week honors with Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. Weeks didn't just have 18 tackles (10 solo) and two tackles for loss, but he also got a sack and pass defended. The Rebels high powered offense scored just 26 points on the day, which was a big factor in why the Tigers got the win.

Weeks also had one of the biggest plays of the game. He sacked quarterback Jaxson Dart on what ended up being the final play of regulation, preventing a field goal attempt. It was a big one, especially since they hit a 57-yard field goal in overtime.

Swinson was also excellent on the day with eight tackles (5 solo) but it was the 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and 2 passes defended that were the biggest factor in getting the win. He was a wrecking ball in the trenches for a Tigers defense that hasn't had ton of success this season.

The Tigers got one of the biggest wins of the year on Saturday and they will continue carrying that momentum throughout the second half of the season. The Tigers will travel to Arkansas this upcoming Saturday.
