Oklahoma Sooners players took it upon themselves to do what should have been done a few weeks ago

The Oklahoma Sooners have got to turn around their season. That's the phrase we seem to be hearing the most now after the Tennessee Volunteers ' loss and the loss to the Texas Longhorns . The Sooners have been beaten down to their core when it comes to injuries, but that's still no excuse to be losing the way they have been.

The offense was virtually non-existent against the Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry. The defense, well, they started the game great with an interception, but the offense continued to kill everything the Sooners had going that was positive.

While it feels like it's the end of the world for this team, and it feels like the season is chalked up, that's not completely true. The SEC is somewhat wide open this year, outside of Texas being great. And, they are 4-2. If they did somehow get their offense together, and finish the season 4-2, they could make the playoffs. Anything is possible.

But, that's a big if. They still have to get everything turned around. So, the team took it upon themselves to do something they probably should have done after the Tennessee game.

"Obviously, you kind of already know what the mood would be like (after loss to Texas)," linebacker Danny Stutsman said on Monday night. "You kind of talk to the team, put on the tape, you're going to be disappointed... Right after something like that happens, it's very easy for teams and guys to start blaming each other.

"There are 1,000 excuses you can make, but only so many opportunities you're going to have. I think right after that we had a player's meeting, all of the guys got together, something positive you like to see, really aired it out and guys got a lot out there. We flushed it and learned from it."

The Sooners should have probably done this a while back, but, then again, when they made the quarterback change they just assumed everything would be better. Well, it was worse, and not because of the QB change, but because the opponent got harder and the offense as a whole got worse.

Sometimes these players-only meetings help. In this case, you really hope the defense lets the offense hear it. Time to see how they respond against South Carolina and then Ole Miss , two pretty good SEC teams.
