The Longhorns are scheduled to have their biggest recruiting weekend of the season with at least seven top-100 national recruits planning on coming to Austin with a bunch of other key four- and three-star targets.
This is the weekend where recruits will need some help with logistics. Formula 1 racing is also happening in Austin, along with an Eminem concert. It’s a huge weekend where all aspects of a major metropolitan city will be on full display.
“Every season you go through, we invite a ton of recruits to games and different things, but every year, naturally, you have those one or two games that recruits really want to come to and they kind of circle it, even in the summertime,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. “And this was one of those games.”
Maybe they’re coming to see Georgia. Take defensive lineman Justus Terry, for example. He’s the nation’s No. 8-ranked overall recruit from Manchester, Ga. On3’s recruiting projections have him as a 96% Georgia lean. Still, he’ll be on the Texas campus, giving the Horns a chance to make their pitch.
Safety Jonah Williams, the nation’s 10th-rated overall recruit from Galveston Ball, is already committed to UT. Michael Terry III, an athlete from San Antonio Alamo Heights, is No. 30 nationally. He’s a 96% Texas lean, according to On3.
Linebacker Riley Pettijohn (No. 33) is an Ohio State commit, but he’s expected to be in Austin this weekend. Edge rusher Lance Jackson (No. 34) is a Texas commit. He can help convince Pettijohn to flip.
Edge rusher Javion Hilson (No. 40) from Cocoa, Fla., is a 92% Texas lean over Florida State. Linebacker Elijah Barnes (No. 75) from Dallas Skyline has already made his decision; he’s signing with the Horns.
“I think we were fortunate that we got a night draw, that it’s a night game, and that allows a lot of those kids that play Friday nights to drive in or fly in on Saturday and be here for the ball game at night,” Sarkisian said.
“Obviously a great atmosphere at DKR, and I’m sure we’ll have the smoke and the light show and the drones and all the stuff CDC’s got planned for everybody,” the coach added. “I think the kids really appreciate that, to know that Longhorn Nation supports their team, but also see a really high level of football and see us compete against what, like I said, what has been the standard of college football here now for about half a decade or so.”
Texas’ 2025 recruiting class currently ranks sixth, according to On3. The Horns have 21 total commitments, including three five-star players and 11 four-star picks.
