Alabama HC Kalen DeBoer would be wise to call upon his open-door policy with Nick Saban right about now

The Alabama Crimson Tide might be 5-1 and among the top seven teams in the nation, but the last two weeks have been anything but smooth sailing.

And while this weekend in Knoxville presents an opportunity to silence the doubters, the Tennessee Vols project to be the Tide's hardest test yet outside of the Georgia Bulldogs .

So if there was ever a time to call upon Coach Saban, it might be now for Kalen DeBoer, something he was asked about on Wednesday.

    Time to call Coach Saban?

"But I know that there's an open line if and whenever I need something so, yeah I just wanted him to know at that time," said DeBoer when asked about his introductory presser and relationship with Coach Saban. "And I always wanted him to know that, you know, just like he and those that built this program, that there's an open door to always come be around and, you know, obviously a great mind. So you know, if there's something that he's ever seeing, I want to hear it."

If you caught any of College Gameday in Eugene last week, than maybe you watched the part where Coach Saban said that he saw a complacent team against Vandy, one that started slow and never really caught up.

And Coach Saban, along with many others thought that last Saturday at the Capstone would be a "get right game" when in reality it took everything the Tide had to win a game they were once again favored by over three scores over South Carolina.

So look, no one needs to check Coach DeBoer's resume. Everywhere he goes, he wins and he wins, and quickly. This time two weeks ago he was anointed as the next great one after the Georgia victory.

But that was probably an overreaction the same way that those calling for his job after the Vandy loss overreacted.

Anything could be a help ahead of the Vols game. A call about the rivalry, a conversation about the lack of energy from the team in the last few weeks or how to handle the recent scrutiny. It all could help the HC s he oversees a team that has seemingly lost their way the last two weeks.

So make the call Coach DeBoer, or better yet, have Saban come by the facility on Thursday after the final practice of the week.

    It can't hurt.
